Yesterday, the last of our horses went off to her new home. My daughter's black Welsh Cob x mare went up to my dear friend Kathy and her daughter up in Scotland. The photo is of her at Pony Club camp a few years back, very posh and at her cleanest. I know she will be happy in her new home, which gives me great peace of mind.
So after 40 years of horse-owning, my stables are now empty, and likely to stay that way. I will have my memories of them all - from Maize, who I bought when I was 16, and Windy, and Lancer, and Quiz, and little Mikra and Charcoal, through the horses I had here - TB's Rou, Tiffin and Rosie, little section A's Jo-Jo and Merlin, leaving the best till last - our Rescue case, Itsy; handsome black Maggie, and my horse of a lifetime, Fahly. A sad day . . . but who's to say there won't be the temptation to buy a little Dartmoor for those future grandchildren . . .
